When I first read about oil washing, I was intrigued – and badly in need of skin hydration, so I tried it with a tiny bit of reservation from fear of breakout. The idea behind using natural cleansers, such as almond oil, to wash your skin is that natural oils not only clean the skin but help to balance the oils in your skin naturally.
My bathtub now has exactly 5 items neatly organized around the rim:
- Essential Oil Scented Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse
- Bronner’s Liquid Soap solution
- Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub
- Almond Oil
- Razor
Half a year after giving almond oil a try, I’m a complete convert to oil washing for my face. It’s smoother and brighter than ever and feels like an ultra-luxurious treatment each time.
8 Uses for Almond Oil
- Eye makeup remover
- Face wash
- Shave cream
- Mixing with sugar as an exfoliating scrub
- Massage oil
- Soaking bath oil
- Deep hair conditioning treatment; just shampoo after
- Face, hand, lip, and body moisturizer in a pinch
It’s as simple as buying a bottle of organic almond oil and recycling all of your other bath products as they become empty. Mission Accomplished.
Additional Tips
Thicken Your Oil
Combine 4 parts almond oil with 1 part organic castor oil.
Add a signature fragrance
If you want almond scent, you’ll have to find a really clean source of fragrance oil since almond essential oil does not exist for therapeutic uses. I prefer Body Time Perfume Oils since they have far fewer ingredients than traditional perfume oils. Otherwise, try adding a few drops of any of the following essential oils or a combination:
- Jasmine: exotic and aphrodisiac…tic
- Vetiver: ditto the above but with a slightly more masculine scent
- Lavender, Eucalyptus, or Chamomile: great if you want something fresh
- Peppermint: particularly if you live in a warm climate
- Cinnamon: particularly if you live in a cold climate
